State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has unveiled plans to lease out its valuable, often long-empty, real estate holdings in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. This initiative aims to unlock new revenue streams for the corporation. Advertisements inviting potential tenants have already been circulated, specifically targeting public sector organizations, accredited banks, international bodies, and private companies boasting an annual turnover exceeding ₹5 crore. While public sector entities can secure these spaces directly, private enterprises will need to participate in a competitive tender process.
Rental rates for these properties have been carefully determined, taking into account each building’s size and its prime location. A wide array of properties is on offer in key areas such as Mananchira, Vellayil, Kozhikode Beach, West Hill, Feroke, Chevayur, Malapparamba, Mukkam, Thamarassery, Thiruvambadi, Chombala, Thiruvallur, Nadapuram, Naduvannur, and Sulthan Bathery. Available floor areas vary significantly, from a modest 1,500 square feet up to a substantial 12,150 square feet, catering to diverse business needs.
This strategic move comes in the wake of significant operational changes within BSNL. The company has experienced a substantial downsizing due to the widespread transition from traditional copper cable infrastructure to modern fibre optic networks, resulting in numerous buildings becoming redundant and standing vacant for an extended period.
