Early Sunday morning, an alarming incident unfolded in Eriyal town, Kasaragod, as a lorry reportedly veered off course and collided with a line of fourteen parked two-wheelers along the National Highway service road. The crash, which occurred around 5 a.m., left a trail of destruction, raising serious questions about road safety.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with initial suspicions pointing to the driver having dozed off at the wheel. The heavy vehicle, traveling from Mangaluru to Kasaragod, not only obliterated the motorcycles but also brought down several electric poles before finally coming to a halt.
Remarkably, despite the extensive damage to property, there were no human casualties. This fortunate outcome is attributed to the early morning hour, as the area was reportedly deserted at the time of the crash. The damaged two-wheelers are understood to belong to migrant workers residing in a nearby rented building.
Local officials expressed immense relief that a far greater tragedy was narrowly averted. They emphasized that this particular spot usually experiences significant pedestrian movement later in the morning, especially with people heading to a nearby church, making the absence of casualties truly a miracle.
