The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has boldly asserted that the infamous ‘Parakamani scam’ at Tirumala in 2023 was orchestrated directly by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and personally overseen by the then-Chief Minister, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
During a press conference held on Sunday, prominent TDP leaders — including Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman A. Ravi Naidu, Andhra Pradesh Yadava Welfare Corporation Chairman G. Narasimha Yadav, Tirupati Deputy Mayor R. C. Munikrishna, and AP Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Director Vooka Vijayakumar — accused the former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, of misappropriating a staggering ₹153 crore from the sacred temple’s treasury.
Mr. Ravi Naidu emphatically stated that the then-Chief Minister was fully aware of the scam and pledged to expose every individual involved. He expressed profound disbelief at how the former TTD chairman could unilaterally broker a compromise, effectively shielding an accused from legal prosecution and enabling them to evade justice.
“Mr. Karunakar Reddy went as far as issuing a certificate to the accused, declaring them a ‘changed man’ who had ‘turned repentant,’ and even claimed to have acted on ‘humanitarian grounds,’” Naidu critically remarked. “By what authority did he make a private settlement with a perpetrator, thereby making a complete mockery of our established legal and judicial systems?”
Mr. Narasimha Yadav issued a stern warning, declaring, “Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with former TTD chairpersons Y.V. Subba Reddy and Karunakar Reddy, and the then Executive Officer A.V. Dharma Reddy, will not escape accountability for this crime and will inevitably face justice.”
Both Mr. Munikrishna and Mr. Vijay Kumar voiced their astonishment and strong disapproval. Munikrishna questioned Reddy’s justification for pardoning criminals, while Vijay Kumar lamented, “It was truly a dark day when an individual caught stealing from the sacred Srivari Hundi was pardoned by the very custodian sworn to protect it.”
