A tremor measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Kutch district of Gujarat on Sunday afternoon, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR). The seismic event occurred at approximately 12:41 PM, with its epicenter identified about 12 kilometers north-northeast of Bhachau.
This tremor followed an earlier seismic activity in the same region. A weaker tremor of magnitude 2.6 was recorded earlier in the day, around 6:41 AM, with its epicenter located 24 kilometers east-southeast of Dholavira.
Local disaster management officials confirmed that there have been no reports of damage to property or casualties. Kutch district is situated in a high-risk seismic zone, making minor earthquakes a recurring phenomenon in the area.
It’s worth noting that the devastating earthquake in Kutch in 2001 was one of the most destructive in India’s history, causing widespread destruction and significant loss of life.
