Imphal, Manipur – In a significant move to curb illegal activities, Manipur police announced on Sunday, September 21, the successful arrest of three militants from various banned organizations, along with an arms dealer. This operation marks a crucial step in maintaining peace and order across the region.
Authorities confirmed that two members of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) outfit were apprehended in Tronglaobi, Bishnupur district, on Friday, September 19. These individuals, identified as Thokchom Manimatum Singh (20) and Laishram Premsagar Singh (24), were reportedly involved in a widespread extortion racket targeting local residents, businesses, and educational institutions.
Further intensifying their crackdown, police also arrested Adhikarimayum Ramkumar Sharma (62), a cadre from the banned People’s Liberation Army outfit, in Kongba, Imphal East district.
Adding to these arrests, an arms dealer, Phijam Chetanjit Singh (33), was taken into custody from his residence in Yurembam, Imphal West district, on the same day. From his possession, a substantial cache of illegal weapons was seized, including a self-loading rifle, two magazines, and 96 assorted cartridges. The timely arrests highlight the police’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring public safety.
