The Jnanabharathi Police have launched an investigation into allegations of harassment made by a woman lecturer against five of her male guest lecturer colleagues at Bangalore University.
The case, registered on September 8 following a complaint from the 30-year-old victim, names Swaroop Kumar, Ramanjaneya B.K., Rangaswamy, Jagannatha K., and Shivaray. They face serious charges under various sections, including those pertaining to sexual harassment (Section 75), insulting a woman’s modesty (Section 79), criminal intimidation (Section 351), and intentional insult aimed at provoking a breach of peace (Section 352).
In her detailed complaint, the victim recounted how Kumar and Ramanjaneya allegedly subjected her to severe mental harassment. She claims this campaign of intimidation led to her losing her job, fueled by false rumors and defamatory information spread by the duo. Furthermore, she bravely disclosed an incident where she felt compelled to physically take Kumar’s phone, which he was reportedly using to record her, suggesting an attempt at blackmail.
Upon confronting the accused individuals, the victim alleges she was met with further abuse and insidious demands for sexual favors, alongside chilling death threats should she refuse to comply. These grave accusations prompted her to seek justice by formally filing a police complaint, leading to the ongoing investigation.
