Hyderabad recently witnessed a fierce political accusation, as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former MLA Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy publicly denounced the ruling Congress party. He alleged that Congress leaders across Telangana are embroiled in a massive illegal sand mining and distribution scam, cynically leveraging the State’s ‘Indiramma houses’ construction scheme as a cover.
Speaking at a press conference alongside BRS students’ wing president Gellu Srinivas Yadav, Reddy highlighted a specific protest staged by BRS in Tekumatla mandal, within the Bhupalapally constituency, against these illicit activities. Despite their efforts, he claimed the government machinery showed no interest in addressing the issue.
Furthermore, Reddy accused Congress leaders involved in the illegal mining of organizing counter-protests against BRS demonstrations. He sharply criticized the police for allegedly obstructing BRS’s peaceful protests rather than intervening to stop the unlawful sand extraction.
The former MLA emphasized that this problem is not isolated to Bhupalapally but is a widespread menace throughout the Godavari Basin, facilitated by the active complicity of Congress functionaries.
Expanding on his criticisms, Reddy also pointed out the non-allocation of essential funds to local gram panchayats, which he stated leaves them struggling to function effectively. He further suggested that the government’s reluctance to hold local elections stems from a fear of impending defeat.
Reddy concluded by urging Minister Seethakka to take immediate action, particularly to ensure the release of funds that would allow villages to improve basic facilities and celebrate cultural festivities like Bathukamma and Dasara with dignity.
