A remarkable milestone has been reached in India’s ambitious bullet train project: the successful excavation of a 4.88-kilometer tunnel section connecting Shilphata and Ghansoli. This vital segment is part of a more extensive 21-kilometer underground route, which notably features a challenging 7-kilometer stretch beneath the Thane Creek.
Engineers utilized the advanced New Austrian Tunnel Method (NATM) in conjunction with sophisticated safety systems to ensure the precise and secure completion of this section. The newly finished tunnel now provides a critical link between the Savali shaft and the Shilphata portal. Work on this challenging underground endeavor began in May 2024 and is proceeding with commendable speed, bringing the vision of high-speed rail closer to reality.
