India’s sensational opener, Smriti Mandhana, delivered a truly unforgettable performance in the third One-Day International against Australia in New Delhi on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Her masterful innings saw her notch up the second-fastest century in Women’s ODI history, reaching the monumental three-figure mark off just 50 deliveries.
This incredible feat allowed Mandhana to surpass a long-standing record held by former Australian batter Karen Rolton, who scored her century off 57 balls back in the 2000-01 season against South Africa.
While Mandhana’s innings was electrifying, the record for the fastest Women’s ODI century still belongs to former Australian skipper Meg Lanning, who blasted a 45-ball hundred against New Zealand during the 2012-13 season.
At 29 years old, Mandhana’s 50-ball whirlwind, adorned with 14 glorious fours and four powerful sixes, not only set a new personal best but also established a new benchmark for Indian batters. She impressively broke her own previous record of a 70-ball century.
Demonstrating consistent brilliance, Mandhana also achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first woman batter to score four ODI hundreds in a single calendar year, a feat she accomplished in 2024. Only Tazmin Brits of South Africa has matched this incredible achievement.
Adding another feather to her cap, Mandhana now stands as only the second batter to score successive hundreds in Women’s ODIs twice, mirroring the achievement of Australia’s Tammy Beaumont.
The overall record for the most consecutive hundreds in women’s ODI remains with New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite, who scored four tons in a row during the 2016-2017 season.
