MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao has called upon the residents of Vijayawada to ensure their city consistently leads the annual ‘Swachh Survekshan Survey’ rankings. He stressed that safeguarding Vijayawada’s esteemed ‘garbage-free city’ title, awarded with a seven-star rating in the Swachh Survey-2024, is a shared responsibility that falls on every individual.
Speaking at the ‘Swarna Andhra-Swachh Andhra’ program, organized by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) at M.K. Baig School, Mr. Rao reiterated the importance of maintaining this status. G. Jayalakshmi, NTR District In-charge Officer and Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, highlighted that active public participation is vital for the continued success of the ‘Swarna Andhra-Swachh Andhra’ initiative, held on the third Saturday of every month. She expressed confidence that with community cooperation, Vijayawada would undoubtedly secure top honors.
VMC Commissioner Dhyanachandra H.M. noted that September’s theme, ‘Green Andhra Pradesh’ (Harita Andhra), inspired various awareness campaigns focused on home vegetable cultivation and composting household waste into fertilizer. The Commissioner also instructed officials to establish terrace gardens at both the corporation’s main and zonal offices. Further promoting green living, Eluri Leela Kumari, Founder of the NGO One Earth One Life, announced the free distribution of vegetable seeds to encourage residents to embrace terrace gardening. The program concluded with students planting 300 saplings at M.K. Baig School and the Makineni Basava Punnaiah Indoor Stadium premises. Dignitaries present included Corporator Shaheena Sultana, Additional Commissioner (Projects) D. Chandrashekar, and Zonal Commissioner K. Prabhudas.
