The All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (AIFAWH) is rallying its members for a nationwide protest. Their primary goal: to defend and protect the crucial Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme across the country.
The 11th State Mahasabha of the Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (AWW&HU) recently concluded in Ongole – a significant event as it was the first time the conference was held in this city. AIFAWH national general secretary A.R. Sindhu served as the chief guest, addressing the passionate gathering.
During the two-day State-level conference, Ms. Sindhu lauded the anganwadi workers in Andhra Pradesh for their impactful movement over the past three years. She highlighted how their dedication has yielded positive outcomes and set the stage for future advocacy efforts.
Ms. Sindhu specifically commended the indomitable spirit shown by A.P. AWW&HU members during their challenging 42-day protest against the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA). She congratulated them on their success in securing several Government Orders (GOs) through their sustained struggle.
However, Ms. Sindhu also voiced strong concerns, asserting that anganwadi workers in many states, including Andhra Pradesh, continue to face inadequate salaries and general neglect. She attributed these ongoing issues to the economic policies implemented by both Central and State governments.
