HYDERABAD: In a dramatic turn of events, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, successfully seized a massive 12 kg consignment of hydroponic marijuana. This high-value narcotic, estimated to be worth approximately ₹12 crore, was intercepted at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
The operation was initiated based on precise intelligence. DRI officials targeted and intercepted an Indian passenger who had just arrived from Dubai. A thorough search of her luggage revealed the initial discovery: 6 kg of hydroponic marijuana, cleverly hidden within various packets. Subsequent tests conclusively identified the substance as cannabis.
During intensive questioning, the arrested passenger revealed a crucial detail: another piece of her checked-in baggage had been reported as misplaced, for which she had already filed a complaint with the airline. This missing bag subsequently arrived in Hyderabad on the very same day, September 20. Upon inspection, it too was found to contain an additional 6 kg of hydroponic marijuana.
The combined seizures amounted to a total of 12 kg of this potent, high-grade narcotic. The passenger involved has been formally arrested under the strict provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
Officials have confirmed that the investigation is actively ongoing, with their primary focus now on dismantling the larger criminal network responsible for this sophisticated drug smuggling attempt.
