Annamayya district experienced a relentless downpour on Friday night, with its headquarters, Rayachoti, registering an astonishing 145.4 mm of rain in just 24 hours—a new record. This extreme weather event has brought normal life to a standstill across several regions, as the combined rainfall in Rayachoti, Rajampet, and Madanapalle revenue divisions surpassed 520 mm.
Specific areas within the Rayachoti division also saw significant rainfall: Chinnamandem received 63.0 mm, Sambepalli 52.8 mm, and Ramapuram 42.6 mm. Further, Penagalur in the Rajampet division recorded 74.6 mm, while Peddamandam in the Madanapalle division was hit with 98.8 mm of rain, adding to the district’s woes.
In response to the severe conditions, district authorities have issued critical safety advisories. The public is strongly urged to refrain from attempting to cross swollen streams, submerged culverts, or any low-lying areas. Residents are also warned to maintain a safe distance from all water bodies. To ensure public safety on hazardous routes, police personnel have been strategically deployed along the ghat roads leading to Horsely Hills and the Guvvala Cheruvu ghat towards Kadapa, where they are actively cautioning motorists about the dangerously slippery terrain.
