Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu recently addressed the Legislative Council, confirming that 96,660 families from 373 habitations are slated for rehabilitation due to the Polavaram Irrigation Project.
In response to a query from Kumbha Ravibabu, the Minister outlined the two-phase rehabilitation strategy. Phase I involves relocating 38,060 families residing up to the +41.15-meter contour level. Phase II will then address 58,600 families living between the +41.15-meter and +45.72-meter levels.
During Phase I, compensation for rehabilitation and resettlement was designated for all 38,060 affected families. To date, 19,953 families have received their compensation, comprising 9,220 Scheduled Tribe households, 2,639 Scheduled Caste households, and 8,094 families from other categories.
Additionally, 18,964 beneficiaries in Phase I have already been allocated housing plots. This includes 9,960 Scheduled Tribe families, 2,314 Scheduled Caste families, and 6,690 families from other groups.
The Minister reassured the Council of the government’s unwavering commitment to finalize the rehabilitation process in strict adherence to the project’s approved guidelines.
