In a heartwarming gesture, the Karuvannur Service Cooperative Bank on Friday released ₹10,000 to Anandavalli, an elderly woman from Irinjalakuda. This financial assistance comes after a widely reported incident where she was allegedly treated dismissively by Union Minister of State for Tourism, Suresh Gopi, during a public interaction session known as Kalunku Souhruda Samvadam. Anandavalli had sought the Minister’s intervention to retrieve her deposit from the bank, which has been grappling with a significant scam.
The allocated amount is specifically intended to help Anandavalli purchase much-needed medicines. Following the controversy that arose from the public exchange, dedicated workers from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) actively stepped in to support Anandavalli, bringing her to the bank to receive the funds.
The incident that led to this development occurred during a recent public gathering. Anandavalli had approached Mr. Gopi, openly requesting his assistance in recovering her substantial deposit of ₹1.75 lakh held within the troubled bank. In response, the Minister had reportedly advised her to direct her appeal to the Chief Minister of Kerala instead, a comment that sparked considerable discussion and criticism.
