The nation is collectively grieving the loss of Assam’s beloved vocalist, Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to extend his condolences, taking to ‘X’ on Friday, September 19, 2025.
“Shocked by the sudden demise of popular singer Zubeen Garg. He will be remembered for his rich contribution to music,” the Prime Minister posted. “His renditions were very popular among people across all walks of life. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” he added.
Rahul Gandhi Calls Zubeen Garg’s Death a ‘Terrible Tragedy’
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also expressed his deep sorrow, describing Garg’s death as a “terrible tragedy.”
“The passing of Zubeen Garg is a terrible tragedy. His voice defined a generation, and his talent was truly unmatched,” Mr. Gandhi stated on ‘X’. He further noted that Garg had “overcome personal tragedies to reshape the landscape of Assamese music.”
“His perseverance and courage have left an enduring mark. He will live on in our hearts and minds forever,” Mr. Gandhi’s post concluded.
Adil Hussain, Vishal Mishra, Pritam, and More Express Grief Over Zubeen Garg’s Passing
The music and film fraternities were left stunned by Zubeen Garg’s sudden death. Actor Adil Hussain, along with musicians Papon, Vishal Mishra, Armaan Malik, and Pritam, shared their heartfelt reactions.
On X, Mr. Hussain conveyed his devastation: “I am so very sad… His contribution to Assamese music and culture is extraordinary… He will live amongst us through his songs… Dear Zubeen I remember you with lots love and fondness.. May his singing soul rest in peace and God bless his soul… Good bye Zubeen.. Until we meet on the other side… Keep singing with your beautiful Voice and make Gods Happy.”
Papon, visibly shocked, wrote: “This is so shocking! The voice of a generation! Gone too soon. At a loss of words! Lost a friend. Lost a brother. A big void. Praying for a peaceful journey of his soul.”
Mr. Mishra shared a poignant old photograph of Garg on Instagram, writing: “Zubeen Da, like everyone else, I loved your voice and connected to it so much! Left us all too soon.” Armaan Malik tweeted simply: “I am devastated and in disbelief. May his soul rest in peace.. #ZubeenGarg.”
Music director Pritam also shared his grief on X: “Zubeen losing his life in an accident is just the most terrible and saddest news. I’m still trying to come to terms with it… My deepest condolences to Garima and his family. Om Shanti.”
Zubeen Garg, 52, renowned for his iconic song ‘Ya Ali,’ tragically passed away while scuba diving in the Southeast Asian country. He is survived by his wife.
