The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the removal of Muhammad Wasim, head coach of the national women’s team, following their disappointing run in the recent ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.
Despite successfully qualifying for the prestigious event in April by topping the qualifiers in Lahore, the team’s performance at the main tournament was dire. Co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the eight-team competition saw Pakistan finish at the very bottom.
All of Pakistan’s matches in the tournament were played in Colombo.
Under the captaincy of Fatima Sana, the team suffered four significant losses, and frustratingly, three other matches were abandoned due to adverse weather conditions.

The PCB confirmed that Wasim’s contract concluded with the end of the World Cup, and they have opted not to extend his tenure, intending to appoint a fresh head coach.
Wasim, a former Test cricketer who previously served as the chief selector for the men’s teams, took on the head coach role last year. His time with the women’s team included a semifinal exit in the Asia Cup and an early knockout in the league stages of the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
According to a reliable source, the PCB is actively seeking a foreign coach. However, if a suitable international candidate is not found, there’s a possibility that former women’s team captain Bismah Maroof might be considered for the position.
The source further indicated that a complete overhaul of the support staff is also expected in the coming days.
