The government is actively exploring plans to establish a new industrial park on a significant land parcel in Muthukur mandal, SPSR Nellore district. This land, originally allocated to the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group back in 2007, has remained unused for nearly two decades.
The future of this 7,000-acre plot, initially earmarked for a power plant, was brought to the forefront during Friday’s Assembly session by Sarvepalli MLA and former minister, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy. He highlighted that the land has been lying idle for an astonishing 18 years, prompting questions about its long-term purpose.
Expressing deep concern, Mr. Reddy pointed out that the prime wetland, benefiting from canal irrigation, has prevented local farmers from cultivation for an extended period due to the ongoing uncertainty. He lamented that “thousands of acres of fertile land in Nellore district are rendered waste,” underscoring the pressing need for a resolution.
The MLA urged the government to prioritize this matter and accelerate industrial development in the region to make productive use of the valuable land.
In response, Minister for Industries, T.G. Bharath, confirmed the government’s active consideration to convert the Reliance Group’s allocated land into an industrial park, recognizing its “huge potential.” He added that the government would proceed with the conversion if the Reliance Group formally submits a proposal for this new purpose.
