In a major development concerning the tragic Karur stampede, a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a visit to the Chennai headquarters of actor Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on Monday, November 3, 2025. The inquiry is directly linked to the devastating incident on September 27, where 41 individuals lost their lives during a rally.
C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, the party’s joint general secretary, informed journalists that CBI officials were specifically seeking detailed information regarding the Karur stampede. Their focus included collecting available CCTV footage and identifying attendees at the ill-fated event.
Kumar clarified that the party had previously provided similar data to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was initially formed by the Madras High Court but subsequently suspended by the Supreme Court. He emphasized that the CBI’s summons was for information retrieval, not personal appearance, and assured reporters that the requested details would be furnished within four days.
This move comes after the Supreme Court’s order last month, which transferred the investigation from the SIT to the CBI, marking a new phase in the probe into the Karur tragedy.
