The Trinamool Congress leadership has publicly denounced health camps organized by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram, labeling them as a direct imitation of the ‘Sebashray’ model pioneered by party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
Mr. Adhikari initiated these camps in Sonachura, Nandigram, to provide medical services to his constituents, a move that has drawn strong criticism and ridicule from West Bengal’s ruling party.
In a pointed social media statement, the Trinamool Congress highlighted that Mr. Adhikari had previously mocked Mr. Banerjee’s Sebashray launch, an initiative aimed at serving the people of his Diamond Harbour constituency.
“Now, as the residents of Nandigram express a desire for Sebashray-like services, the very same Suvendu (Adhikari) is busily replicating the program he once derided. While imitation can be a form of flattery, in the political arena, it merely exposes a lack of original ideas — and the public will not be deceived,” the Trinamool Congress declared on social media.
Several Trinamool Congress leaders have echoed this sentiment, intensifying the verbal exchange.
“The BJP consistently follows a pattern: first, ridicule; then, copy. Every time the Trinamool Congress Government introduces a pro-people initiative, @BJP4India is quick to attack, mock, and attempt to obstruct it — only to unashamedly mimic it later. From schemes like Lakshmir Bhandar to Duare Sarkar — none have been exempt from their hypocrisy,” the party further asserted.
Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress general secretary, initially launched the Sebashray program in January 2025. This initiative involved establishing hundreds of free medical camps across his Diamond Harbour constituency, which saw significant public engagement and continued for several weeks.
Controversy Surrounds NCW Member’s Presence at Suvendu’s Medical Camp
Adding another layer to the dispute, the presence of Archana Majumdar, a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), at Mr. Adhikari’s camp has sparked further controversy. Dr. Majumdar, a qualified physician, was observed providing medical advice to patients at the event.
Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh questioned her involvement, stating, “The presence of NCW member Archana Majumdar, who consistently criticizes the state government and aligns herself with the BJP, raises serious questions. Why would an NCW member be present at a camp organized by a BJP leader?”
It is known that Dr. Majumdar has strong ties with the BJP, having previously contested West Bengal Assembly elections on a BJP ticket.
In response to the criticism, Dr. Majumdar defended her actions: “I attended this camp in my capacity as a practicing physician. The TMC and Kunal Ghosh are engaging in petty politics over a humanitarian effort designed to assist ordinary citizens.”
