Tragedy has struck Kanjirakkode, Kerala, as Mithun, a 30-year-old auto driver, was discovered dead near his home on Friday. His body was found hanging from a tree in a private plot, just one day after he was released on bail following his arrest by the Kerala Forest Department.
Mithun had been apprehended earlier last week, along with two others, by forest officials from the Wadakkanchery Range. The charges against them involved hunting a wild boar and illegally selling its meat. After being produced in court, the accused were remanded but secured bail on Thursday.
This heartbreaking incident has ignited a wave of strong protests from local residents, who are fiercely demonstrating against the Forest Department. Villagers allege that Mithun endured severe mental distress and pressure following his arrest. They insisted that his body should not be removed until the tahsildar arrived at the scene, demanding proper legal procedures and accountability. The Wadakkanchery police have since launched a full investigation into the circumstances of his death.
Mithun’s family confirmed that he had been profoundly troubled and under extreme mental pressure since his release from custody.
