A devastating incident unfolded near Varkala on Saturday when a woman was brutally pushed from a moving train, sustaining critical injuries.
The shocking event took place around 8:30 p.m. near the Ayanthi overbridge. The victim was a passenger on the Kerala Express, heading towards Thiruvananthapuram.
Authorities have since taken one man, identified as Suresh Kumar from Panachamoodu, Thiruvananthapuram, into custody in connection with the assault. It is believed that the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Fellow passengers quickly apprehended him and handed him over to the Railway Protection Force at Kochuveli railway station.
Initial investigations suggest that Suresh Kumar may have entered the ladies’ compartment and forcibly pushed the woman onto the tracks shortly after the train departed from Varkala railway station. Police are actively working to confirm these preliminary findings and fully understand the circumstances that led to this horrific act.
Following the incident, a passing MEMU train was halted to facilitate the woman’s rescue. She was first moved to Varkala railway station and then rushed to a private hospital for immediate care. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently transferred to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
