Authorities emphatically reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a grave offense. They warned that individuals involved in fatal accidents due to drunk driving will face stringent charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Such offenses, categorized as culpable homicide not amounting to murder, can lead to a maximum penalty of ten years’ imprisonment along with a substantial fine.
Last week alone, 336 drunk driving cases were successfully resolved in court. The outcomes included fines for 285 offenders, a combination of fines and social service for 32, and jail sentences in addition to fines for 19 individuals.
The Cyberabad traffic police strongly urged all motorists to exercise extreme caution, strictly avoid driving after consuming alcohol, and consistently prioritize the safety of everyone on the road.
