India is actively pursuing new policy initiatives aimed at developing advanced equipment for space and cyber warfare, announced Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan in Ranchi. During his address at the East Tech symposium, General Chauhan emphasized that selecting the right strategic weapons is crucial for modern defense. He also called for a thorough review and modernization of existing research and development (R&D) efforts.
General Chauhan underscored the vital need to expand India’s domestic defense manufacturing capabilities and highlighted the importance of exploring cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI). He acknowledged that while India’s journey towards defense indigenization began somewhat later than desired, the nation is now firmly on the correct path to achieving self-reliance.
Achieving the goals of the Centre’s ‘Act East’ policy and fostering self-reliance in defense will require significant contributions from states such as Jharkhand and West Bengal, General Chauhan noted. He concluded his address by reminding attendees of a fundamental truth in military strategy: “War is both a science and an art. In today’s dynamic environment, a warrior must possess both creativity and an innovative spirit.”
