A crucial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is set to kick off in Cuddalore district from November 4. District Election Officer and Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar announced that booth level officers (BLOs) will conduct a comprehensive door-to-door distribution of enumeration forms to ensure every eligible citizen is accounted for.
The primary goal of this SIR drive is to meticulously update the electoral rolls. This includes identifying and removing the names of absent, shifted, or deceased voters, eliminating any duplicate entries, and, most importantly, collecting details of newly eligible electors. The qualifying date for this exercise is January 1, 2026, meaning anyone turning 18 by this date can apply to have their name included in the voter lists.
This enumeration process will run for a month, from November 4 to December 4. During a meeting held at the Collectorate on Saturday (November 1, 2025), the Collector emphasized that residents should submit their filled and signed applications directly to the BLOs. There’s no need to attach any supporting documents at this initial stage.
For existing voters, if their names appear on the 2002 voter list, this information should be clearly noted on the new enumeration forms. These forms, printed in Tamil, will pre-fill existing voter names and feature their old photographs. Any adult member of the household can help complete the form, providing essential details like date of birth and mobile number. BLOs will be on hand to offer assistance and guidance throughout the form-filling process.
Individuals who are not yet on the voter list, or those who have recently moved, must submit specific application forms such as Form 6, Form 8 A, or Form 8 B, as applicable.
Following the submission, BLOs will conduct inquiries to verify the information. If voters fail to provide the necessary details or if any discrepancies are found, notices will be issued. Only those who receive such notices will then be required to submit any of the 13 specific documents mandated by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The BLOs will finalize orders after thorough verification and inquiry. The entire scrutiny of application and enumeration forms is scheduled to be completed by January 31. A draft voter list will be officially published on December 9, incorporating all applications received from residents. The final, updated voter list will then be released on February 7, as confirmed by the Collector.
