TVK Chief Vijay Slams Electoral Roll Revision, Accuses DMK of Political Posturing

The president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, voiced strong objections on Sunday, November 2, 2025, to the Election Commission of India’s planned Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. He argued that this exercise, slated for Tamil Nadu and several other states, directly threatens the fundamental democratic rights of citizens.

In an official statement, Vijay highlighted that his party had previously opposed the SIR during its initial phase in Bihar. He further alleged that this previous revision led to the removal of hundreds of thousands of voters from the electoral lists in that state.

“Opposition parties have repeatedly claimed that specific voter demographics, especially minority groups, were intentionally targeted and struck from the rolls during this process. The Supreme Court is still reviewing this matter. Given the lack of transparent explanations for the first phase, how can a second phase be justified?” Vijay questioned, adding, “With 6.36 crore voters in Tamil Nadu, verifying their identities thoroughly within a mere 30 days seems impossible.”

He emphasized that TVK believes all opposition parties must unite, transcending political differences, to safeguard the democratic rights of the populace. “However,” he stated, “we are fully cognizant of the DMK’s efforts to manipulate this issue for their own political advantage. Kerala’s government, for instance, has already passed a State Assembly resolution against the SIR, showcasing its dedication to protecting citizens’ rights. Why has the DMK, despite its professed opposition, failed to pass a similar resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly?”

Vijay recounted that his party had participated in an all-party meeting convened by the State government to discuss the delimitation process, where they firmly defended public rights. Yet, he alleged, “the DMK’s motivation behind holding a separate all-party meeting on the SIR seems like a political stunt, designed to distract from the growing corruption accusations against the government as elections approach.”

“It was our party that initially spoke out against the SIR,” Vijay asserted. “Was the DMK dormant then, or suffering from amnesia due to its hidden connections with the BJP-led Union government? Now, suddenly ‘awake,’ the DMK attempts to portray itself as the sole guardian of democracy. This is sheer political hypocrisy. Does the DMK genuinely believe it can deceive everyone with these theatrics, just as it does its own allies?”

He concluded by announcing that TVK plans to organize extensive awareness campaigns and seminars throughout the state to highlight the significant implications of the SIR.
