Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale has urged the Indian government to expedite the creation of a national population policy. He expressed concerns about a growing ‘demographic imbalance’ within the country, emphasizing the need for prompt governmental action.

Speaking to reporters after the RSS’s three-day executive meeting in Jabalpur, Hosabale stated that the demographic imbalance stems from several factors. He identified infiltration of Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals, religious conversions, and a higher birth rate within specific communities as the primary drivers of this imbalance.

“The sooner it is implemented, the greater its benefits will be,” Hosabale remarked, highlighting the urgency of the matter. He stressed that all three identified issues require comprehensive attention, noting that while laws exist to curb religious conversions, social initiatives are also crucial.

Hosabale pointed out that population control is fundamentally the government’s responsibility. He referenced recent government statements, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget speech, which both highlighted the need to address demographic changes in India. However, he observed that no official updates have been provided on these initiatives.

In a separate discussion, when asked about Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent suggestion to ban the RSS, Hosabale dismissed the demand. He asserted that any such action would require valid reasons and could not be based on personal opinions. Hosabale defended the RSS’s work, stating its focus remains on promoting the unity, security, and culture of India.
