K. Madhu Murthy, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE), recently highlighted the incredible impact of modern technology in extending medical services to even the most isolated villages. This remarkable achievement marks a significant step towards equitable healthcare access.

Murthy shared these insights as the esteemed chief guest during the 39th Foundation Day celebrations of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (Dr. NTRUHS), held at the university campus. The event commemorated nearly four decades of pioneering contributions to health education.

He proudly pointed out that Dr. NTRUHS stands as the nation’s inaugural university exclusively dedicated to health education. The strategic establishment of medical colleges across every district in Andhra Pradesh has been instrumental in making healthcare genuinely accessible to ordinary citizens.

Emphasizing the future, Murthy stressed the critical need to embrace and leverage ongoing technological advancements in medicine. He reiterated the university’s foundational vision: to deliver high-quality, accessible education to all. He also paid tribute to former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao, crediting him with the visionary leadership to establish India’s first university solely focused on medical education. Looking ahead, Murthy confidently predicted that continuous technological progress would make healthcare even more widely available.

Supporting this optimistic outlook, G. Raghunandan, Director of Medical Education (DME), applauded the significant increase in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats within the state, signaling a positive trajectory for medical training.

University Vice-Chancellor P. Chandrasekhar reflected on the institution’s journey, noting that since its inauguration on November 1, 1986, Dr. NTRUHS has successfully completed 39 years. He announced plans for a grand celebration next year to mark its 40th anniversary.

Currently, an impressive 554 colleges are affiliated with Dr. NTRUHS. The university actively promotes research by dedicating a specific budget and is set to launch an M.Phil. program in Psychology. Dr. Chandrasekhar extended his gratitude to both the State government and the Governor for allocating land for a new campus in Amaravati. Additionally, the university intends to establish emergency medicine departments across all its affiliated medical colleges. A new air-conditioned lounge was also inaugurated during the celebrations, a gesture of appreciation for the invaluable service of former university employees.
