The 28th edition of the highly anticipated Kochi International Book Festival has officially commenced at the picturesque Ernakulathappan ground. This annual literary extravaganza opened its doors on Saturday, inviting bibliophiles and cultural enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the world of books and arts.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by prominent personalities, including Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, who lit the ceremonial lamp, marking the festival’s official beginning. A highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious ‘Malayalaratnam Puraskaram’ to West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, an honor bestowed upon him by Governor Patel. Furthermore, Governor Patel also unveiled 14 of Governor Bose’s literary works, with copies symbolically handed over to Mayor M. Anilkumar, signifying a significant contribution to the literary landscape.
The festival’s cultural segment was inaugurated by M.J. Akbar, a renowned writer and former Union Minister, adding an intellectual and artistic dimension to the proceedings. The spirit of the festival was beautifully articulated through a poignant message delivered by acclaimed writer K.L. Mohana Varma. In a special tribute, Governor Bose also led a program commemorating the birth centenary of the revered poet Akkitham, celebrating his enduring legacy in Malayalam literature.
