The Election Commission announced Saturday, November 1, 2025, that the Patna Superintendent of Police (Rural) has been transferred. This decision comes in the wake of escalating violence in Mokama, Bihar, following the tragic murder of a Jan Suraaj Party supporter during a recent election campaign.
Mokama has been gripped by palpable tension as the Assembly polls draw near. The unrest began after Dularchand Yadav, a dedicated supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party, was killed, sparking outrage and clashes.

Earlier, two officers were suspended in connection with the Dular Chand Yadav murder case in Mokama, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Just a day prior, on Friday, supporters of the late Yadav reportedly threw stones at the vehicle of Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Mokama candidate, Veena Devi, further illustrating the volatile atmosphere.
In a strong directive to the State’s chief electoral officer, the Election Commission stated, “The Commission has further directed that Vikram Sihag, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Patna may also be transferred. Hence, a panel of officers for posting a substitute in his place may be sent urgently.”
The Election Commission had also requested a comprehensive report from the State regarding the incident without delay.
The Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in two phases: November 6 and November 11. The counting of votes will follow on November 14.
