Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar has publicly called for rigorous action against all individuals responsible for a deeply disturbing blood transfusion incident. This tragedy allegedly resulted in five thalassemia-affected children contracting HIV in the state, sparking widespread concern.
Emphasizing that mere suspensions are insufficient, Governor Gangwar stressed the urgency of implementing robust preventative measures to avert any future recurrence of such a grave medical negligence.
Speaking to reporters during a state foundation day celebration, Mr. Gangwar confirmed that an investigation into the blood transfusion matter is ongoing. He reiterated his firm stance that those found guilty must face more than just suspension, demanding truly effective and punitive action based on the facts uncovered.
The alarming situation came to light on October 24, when the family of a seven-year-old thalassemia patient from Chaibasa, West Singhbhum, accused a local blood bank of transfusing HIV-infected blood.
Following this accusation, a five-member medical team dispatched from Ranchi initiated an investigation on October 26. Their findings tragically confirmed that four additional children had also tested positive for HIV, linking their infections to contaminated blood transfusions.
