A somber Saturday morning witnessed a devastating road accident near Itawa town, approximately 80 kilometers from Kota, Rajasthan. Two young schoolgirls were tragically killed instantly, and five other students sustained critical injuries when their private school van crashed head-on with an SUV.
According to Itawa Deputy Superintendent of Police Shivam Joshi, the collision occurred around 8:00 AM. The school van, transporting between 10 to 12 students from Gaita village to a private school in Itawa, reportedly lost control near the town before colliding with an SUV traveling towards Bundi.
The impact was catastrophic, causing both vehicles to overturn. Eyewitness accounts suggest that a tire burst on the school van led to the driver losing control, contributing to the severe nature of the crash.
The lives lost in this heart-wrenching incident were identified as 15-year-old Tanu Dhakad, a Class 10 student, and 8-year-old Parul Arya, a Class 4 student.
The five critically injured students were swiftly transported to New Medical College Hospital in Kota for urgent medical attention.
Adding to the casualties, the van driver and one occupant of the SUV also suffered injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Itawa. Disturbingly, the driver of the SUV reportedly fled the scene after the accident.
Local MLA Chetan Patel promptly arrived at the hospital to assess the situation, offer support to the injured, and extend his condolences to the grieving families.
