Tragic news has emerged concerning two young men from Karnal, Haryana, Ritik (24) and Pawan (40), who left their homes on October 22 with dreams of securing employment in Spain. Their journey, however, took a grim turn as they were reportedly trafficked through a “donkey route” and are now allegedly facing torture in Iran. Their families have been receiving videos showing one of the men pleading for help, reporting that they are being tortured and facing threats, including the potential sale of their kidneys, if ransom demands are not met.

The families have officially lodged a complaint with the Karnal Police and have appealed to the government for assistance in the safe repatriation of the two men. Prominent political figures, including Congress leader Randeep Surjewala, have also stepped in, urging the Haryana government to ensure the swift and safe return of the youths.
Inspector Tarsem, Station House Officer of Karnal Sadar police station, confirmed that a case has been registered based on the families’ complaint against the travel agents who allegedly duped them. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The term “donkers” refers to individuals who facilitate illegal migration through dangerous “donkey routes,” which often involve crossing multiple borders. Ritik and Pawan were reportedly lured by Haryana-based “travel agents” with promises of lucrative jobs in Spain. Their journey, which began with a flight to Kolkata and then to Thailand, eventually led them to Tehran, where they were allegedly told it would be a brief stop before heading to Spain. However, the situation escalated into their alleged abduction and torture.
Randeep Singh Surjewala, General Secretary of the Congress, voiced his concern on social media, stating, “Lives of two youths from Karnal are in danger. Both youths were kidnapped in Iran. Threat to kill them if ransom is not paid.” He urged Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini to prioritize the safe return of the young men.
