A distressing incident unfolded at a private college in Kottayam, Kerala, on Friday, October 31, 2025, leaving sixteen students injured. The unfortunate event occurred during a program celebrating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary when a temporary gallery, erected for the occasion, unexpectedly collapsed.
The collapse took place around 8:45 AM. The injured included students from various National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) units who were present for the program.
Reports indicate that the gallery gave way as students were instructed to stand on it for a head count. Many suffered injuries, primarily to their legs, after becoming trapped within the collapsed structure.
All affected students received immediate medical attention and were transported to Pala General Hospital and other private hospitals. Fortunately, college sources confirmed that none of the students’ injuries were severe.
