The state cabinet has decided to contest a High Court stay that had suspended a government directive mandating prior permission for public events held in government-owned venues. This decision was reached after thorough deliberations during a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
According to Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil, the cabinet resolved to file an appeal to overturn the stay order, which had effectively barred organizations from holding activities in public places. The minister shared this update during a press briefing following the meeting.
In addition to addressing the public event regulations, the cabinet also discussed the upcoming implementation of internal reservations within the state. It was suggested that the Chief Minister, in conjunction with the Social Welfare Minister and the Law Department, would further deliberate on this matter and potentially draft a bill for cabinet consideration.
Other significant administrative approvals were also granted during the meeting. These include the construction of 2,200 new classrooms in government schools statewide, with an allocation of ₹360 crore. This project has been assigned to the Public Works Department, with tenders to be called at the zonal level for the Belagavi and Kalaburagi divisions, and through centralized tenders overseen by the Project Road Asset Management Centre (PRAMC) in Mysuru and Bengaluru divisions. District-level supervision will be handled by the Zilla Panchayat CEO and the Chief Deputy Director (Administration).
The cabinet further approved the Karnataka Strengthening Coastal Resilience and Economy (K-SHORE) project, designed to enhance the coastal ecosystem and improve local livelihoods. An administrative approval of ₹20.47 crore was granted for hiring a Technical and Management Consultant (TAMC). The cabinet also ratified the proposal request for this project and authorized the Karnataka Eco Restoration Society (KERS) to finalize agreements.
Additionally, four existing ports – Karwar, Old Mangaluru (Bengre side), Old Mangaluru (city side), and Malpe – will be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This initiative will operate under a “Repair, Operate, Maintain, and Transfer” (ROMT) framework to boost efficiency, local employment, and revenue for the Karnataka Maritime Board.
Finally, approvals were given for the construction of a Congress Bhavan on land allocated in Mandya district and for the establishment of a Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plant by GAIL in Kolar district, utilizing land owned by the Kolar City Municipal Council. The CBG plant is expected to process approximately 150 tonnes of organic waste daily.
