A significant security alert gripped Mumbai’s Powai neighborhood when a man, identified as Rohit Arya, took 20 children hostage. The incident, which caused widespread panic, prompted an immediate rescue operation by the authorities.
The alarming event took place at RA Studio, located near the L&T building, on a Thursday afternoon. The children had gathered at the studio for what was reportedly an acting audition. Responders received a call around 3 PM, detailing the hostage situation within the building. The Mumbai Fire Brigade, utilizing hydraulic tools, successfully breached the building’s grills to facilitate the police intervention.
The Mumbai Police confirmed the apprehension of Rohit Arya, the accused perpetrator. Preliminary reports suggest that Arya exhibited signs of mental instability and was found to be in possession of a weapon resembling a gun.
Unraveling the Motive Behind the Mumbai Hostage Scare
Authorities reported that all 20 children were safely rescued and that Arya is currently in police custody. Officials are engaged in discussions with Arya to ascertain the reasons behind his actions and to further assess his mental state.
Senior police inspector Jeevan Sonawane of Powai police station stated that Arya’s primary objective was to communicate with the former Maharashtra education minister, Deepak Vasant Kesarkar. “The person behind the hostage wanted to speak to former Maharashtra education minister Deepak Kesarkar regarding some issues he had with the department,” Sonawane informed Hindustan Times.
