India’s strategy for acquiring Russian crude oil remains adaptive, continually adjusting to the dynamic shifts within the global energy market. This was highlighted by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a recent weekly media briefing on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
Mr. Jaiswal stated, “We are meticulously examining the consequences of the recent U.S. sanctions imposed on Russian oil companies. Our policy decisions inherently reflect the evolving conditions of the international market. India’s broader stance on energy procurement is clear: we prioritize securing affordable energy from a variety of sources to meet the vital energy security needs of our 1.4 billion citizens.”
Furthermore, the MEA confirmed that India has successfully obtained a six-month waiver from the U.S. regarding sanctions related to Iran’s Chabahar port.
