In the wake of the devastating school collapse in Piplodi, Jhalawar, that claimed the lives of seven children, two mothers, Binti Bai and Raju Bai, are embarking on a journey towards regaining their motherhood. Both had previously undergone sterilization as part of family welfare initiatives. However, the profound grief and loss they experienced after the July 25 tragedy have led to a unique medical intervention: recanalization surgery, also known as sterilization reversal.
Raju Bai, who lost her young son Kartik, underwent the reversal surgery last month. Binti Bai, who tragically lost both her son Kanha and daughter Meena, had her surgery on Wednesday. Both procedures were successfully carried out at Heera Bai Kanwar Women’s Hospital in Jhalawar by Dr. Madhurima Verma and her team.
Dr. Sajid Khan, Chief Medical and Health Officer of Jhalawar, highlighted the emotional toll on the mothers, stating, “The loss of their children left both mothers in profound shock and depression after the tragedy. We provided them with counselling from our psychologists and encouraged them to regain motherhood through recanalisation.” He further explained that this procedure is performed in exceptionally rare cases, and the decision to conduct it in Jhalawar was a deliberate effort to offer hope to these grieving families.
In a compassionate move, the district administration has pledged support for these mothers. Following directions from the district collector, Ajay Singh Rathore, both Binti Bai and Raju Bai will have access to IVF facilities in Kota and Jaipur. This initiative was spurred by visits from former chief minister Vasundhara Raje and MP Dushyant Singh, who urged the district collector to arrange for the sterilization reversal surgeries.
The medical team, led by Dr. Khan, ensured the women were thoroughly examined for the reversal procedures, aiming to provide them with a chance to experience motherhood once more after their immense losses.
