Itanagar: A disturbing case of alleged sexual abuse has surfaced in the Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, leading to the arrest of a private school hostel warden. The 33-year-old warden, identified as Hen Johnson Baithei, faces serious accusations of sexually assaulting students under his care.
The arrest followed formal complaints lodged by three students, whose ages range from six to thirteen years old. Mebo police station officer-in-charge Akai Chama confirmed the ongoing investigation, stating, “The investigation is underway. So far, three students have come forward with complaints and an FIR has been registered.” He also indicated that more students might come forward as the probe progresses.
The incident reportedly came to light when one of the students experienced pain during restroom use and was consequently taken home for medical attention. Hospital doctors, suspecting sexual abuse, promptly alerted the authorities, initiating police intervention.
School officials expressed their shock and claimed no prior knowledge of the alleged misconduct, describing Baithei as a seemingly disciplined staff member. The principal stated, “I never imagined he could do something like this. The school will cooperate fully with the investigation and ensure such incidents never recur.”
Authorities have begun the process of recording statements from the affected students, their parents, hostel staff, and the school management. The case has understandably ignited widespread outrage within the local community and among parents, who are demanding strict penalties for the accused and a review of safety measures in residential schools across the region.
