CM M.K. Stalin Urges All Parties to Unite Against Proposed Electoral Roll Revision in Tamil Nadu

In a significant move to safeguard democratic processes, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has called for a unified front against the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. He appealed to all political parties to set aside their differences and show solidarity by participating in a crucial all-party meeting scheduled for November 2.

Speaking at a gathering in Tenkasi on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Mr. Stalin highlighted his government’s resilience in the face of adversity. He noted that since 2021, his administration has successfully managed three natural disasters, mitigating their severe impacts without substantial assistance from the Central government. Despite the BJP-led Union government’s steadfast refusal to provide the requested ₹37,000 crore for disaster relief, the DMK government has effectively utilized its own resources to foster robust growth across all sectors and implement various people-friendly welfare initiatives.

The Chief Minister warned that the BJP is poised to inflict yet another challenge upon Tamil Nadu in the form of the SIR, a process reportedly tested in Bihar. “Therefore, I have invited leaders from all political parties to collaborate with us in opposing this measure, which threatens to undermine our democracy, by attending the all-party meeting on November 2. Even if opposition parties hold different views on governmental matters, I implore them to stand with us to avert this impending man-made disaster in the shape of the SIR,” Mr. Stalin emphasized. He expressed optimism that Tamil Nadu would once again overcome this challenge, protecting both its citizens and its democratic values.

Addressing Paddy Procurement Concerns

Regarding recent allegations concerning paddy procurement raised by AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the Chief Minister clarified his government’s actions. He stated that water was released from the Mettur Dam earlier than the usual June 12 date each year, and direct procurement centers were established statewide on September 1 to purchase harvested paddy from farmers. While the previous AIADMK administration procured an average of 28.70 lakh tonnes of paddy annually, the DMK government has significantly surpassed this, procuring 42.61 lakh tonnes per year. In total, the DMK has purchased an impressive 1.70 crore tonnes of paddy over the past four years.

Mr. Stalin further asserted that his government had taken all necessary precautions, ensuring relief camps in Chennai were fully equipped with essential provisions such as food, medical aid, and other facilities during the monsoon season.

During the event, the Chief Minister distributed welfare benefits, laid foundation stones for new projects, and inaugurated completed schemes, collectively valued at approximately ₹1,021.17 crore. Despite expectations, he did not make a specific announcement regarding the Union government’s approval for the Tenkasi Medical College and Hospital.
