In a significant operation against illegal timber trafficking, the Forest Department recently apprehended a 35-year-old farmer in Tirupattur. He was found in possession of a substantial quantity of red sanders logs, estimated to be worth around ₹50 lakh, on his farmland in Rajapalayam.
The individual taken into custody has been identified as B. Sekar. Following a confidential tip-off regarding the storage of illicit red sanders in the village, a specialized forest team launched an investigation. Their search of the farmland led to the discovery of 29 valuable red sanders logs, which were strategically hidden within the farm’s pump room.
During the raid, Sekar and his accomplices attempted to evade capture, but authorities were swift in their response and successfully apprehended the farmer. Officials have indicated that Sekar transported the precious logs from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. He had been storing them on his property with the intention of illegally moving them to furniture merchants in Bengaluru.
