In a significant development for Bengal cricket, young wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has been entrusted with the captaincy for the team’s crucial Ranji Trophy encounter against Tripura. The match is scheduled to take place in Agartala from November 1 to 4, marking a challenging start to Bengal’s campaign.
Porel steps into the leadership void left by star opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, who will be unavailable as he joins the India A squad for their second match against South Africa A. This isn’t the only challenge Bengal faces; the team will also be without the services of their other regular opener, Sudip Chatterjee, who has unfortunately been ruled out due to a knee injury, further impacting their batting lineup.
With Akash Deep also away with the India A team, the primary responsibility of spearheading Bengal’s pace attack will fall squarely on the shoulders of the seasoned international bowler, Mohammed Shami, promising an intense battle on the field.
The full Bengal squad for the Ranji Trophy fixture against Tripura includes: Abishek Porel (captain/wicketkeeper), Sudip Gharami, Anustup Majumdar, Sumanta Gupta, Saurabh Kumar Singh, Shakir Habib Gandhi (wicketkeeper), Kazi Junaid Saifi, Shubham Chatterjee, Aditya Purohit, Shahbaz Ahmed, Vishal Bhati, Rahul Prasad, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal, Ishan Porel, Mohammed Kaif, Sumit Mohanta, Vikas Singh, and Mohammed Shami.
