A harrowing incident unfolded in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district as three unidentified, masked individuals launched a brazen attack, firing indiscriminately outside the private office of a local Congress official. The assault left two people injured, authorities confirmed.
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, in Masturi town. Nitesh Singh, a local Janpad vice-president for the Congress party, was inside his office when the attackers struck.
Witnesses reported that three masked individuals arrived on a motorcycle and abruptly began shooting, discharging between 10 to 12 rounds. While Mr. Singh narrowly escaped harm, his uncle, Chandrakant Singh Thakur, and his brother, Raju Singh, both sustained injuries.
The motive behind this sudden and violent attack remains unclear, according to officials. Chandrakant Singh suffered a bullet wound to his leg, and Raju Singh was shot in the left arm.
Both injured individuals were quickly transported to a hospital in Bilaspur, where their condition is currently reported as stable.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least two of the assailants were armed with pistols or crude, country-made firearms. Following the incident, a large-scale manhunt has been initiated to apprehend the culprits.
Police have issued alerts to neighboring districts and local police stations, expanding their search efforts. Forensic and cyber units have also been deployed to assist in the investigation, and authorities are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding areas.
The investigation is exploring all potential leads, including theories of old feuds, political rivalry, and personal disputes, an official stated.
