Kerala Under Yellow Alert as Cyclone Montha Continues to Influence Weather
Kerala is bracing for another day of intense, isolated heavy rainfall, a direct consequence of the powerful Cyclone Montha churning in the Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for eight districts for October 29, urging residents to stay vigilant.
Cyclone Montha, currently classified as a severe cyclonic storm, is projected to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, along the Andhra Pradesh coast late Tuesday (October 28). At the time of landfall, it is expected to pack sustained wind speeds of 90-100 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 110 kmph.
While the cyclone’s direct impact will be on Andhra Pradesh, its extensive reach continues to influence weather patterns over Kerala. Forecasters anticipate a gradual decrease in the storm’s intensity and associated rainfall activity once it crosses the coast and weakens.
The yellow alert, signifying potential heavy rainfall, has been issued for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur for Wednesday, October 29. Residents in these areas should prepare for significant downpours and take necessary precautions.
