In a groundbreaking achievement for Indian table tennis, the formidable duo of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale has secured their spot in the mixed doubles event of the upcoming WTT Finals. This highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to take place in Hong Kong from December 10 to 14.
Their qualification marks a significant moment in Indian sports history, as no other Indian athlete or pair, across any category (singles or doubles), has ever reached the WTT Finals since its inception in 2021. Currently ranked No. 8 in the world, Shah and Chitale are the first from their nation to earn this prestigious entry.
The journey to the WTT Finals has been paved with impressive performances. Diya and Manush showcased their exceptional talent by clinching victory at the WTT Contender event in Tunis. They further demonstrated their prowess by finishing as runners-up in the intensely competitive WTT Star Contender tournament held in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil.
This year’s WTT Finals holds extra significance, as it is the first time the mixed doubles category has been introduced. The tournament will feature the top seven ranked pairs globally, alongside one host nation wild card entry, all vying for top honors. Previously, the WTT Finals in 2021, 2022, and 2023 exclusively featured men’s singles and women’s singles competitions.
