Indian cricket sensation Smriti Mandhana has officially claimed the top spot in women’s ODI batting rankings, reaching a personal best rating of 828. This monumental achievement comes after a spectacular showing at the recent home World Cup.
The 29-year-old left-handed batter demonstrated her class with an impressive 109 runs against New Zealand and a solid 34 not out against Bangladesh in her most recent matches. Her outstanding form now places her nearly 100 points ahead of Australia’s Ash Gardner, who herself made a significant leap of six places to second position (731) after her unbeaten century against England.
This incredible run follows Mandhana being crowned the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for September 2025, recognizing her brilliant performances in the ODI series against Australia leading up to the World Cup.
Further shifts in the rankings saw South African captain Laura Wolvaardt ascend two spots to enter the top three, thanks to her valuable knocks of 90 and 31. England’s Amy Jones also broke into the top 10, climbing four places to ninth with a rating of 656. Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland made the most significant jump within the top 40, moving up 16 positions to 16th (613). Unfortunately, Indian batter Pratika Rawal, who is sidelined for the remainder of the World Cup due to injury, still managed to climb to 27th in the rankings with a rating of 564.
The tournament has also highlighted the prowess of spin bowlers, with several making notable advancements in their rankings. England’s Sophie Ecclestone maintains her clear lead at the top of the women’s ODI bowling rankings (747). However, she faces new competition from Australian leg-spinner Alana King, who surged five places to a career-high rating of 698 after her seven-wicket haul against South Africa. King now sits just ahead of her teammate Gardner, who slipped one position to third (689).
Pakistan’s Nashra Sandhu now shares the 10th spot with Proteas left-arm orthodox spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba (610), while fast bowlers Marizanne Kapp and Sutherland also moved up one place each to fourth and seventh respectively. Another left-arm orthodox spinner, Linsey Smith, achieved the biggest climb, rocketing 24 spots to 36th (444).
In the all-rounder category, Gardner’s recent performances have solidified her No. 1 position with a rating of 503. Marizanne Kapp has emerged as the new No. 2, surpassing West Indies’ Hayley Matthews with a rating of 422. Sutherland’s impressive contributions also propelled her to fourth, while her teammate King entered the top 10, moving up three spots to a rating of 262.
