In a critical move prioritizing passenger safety, Indian Railways has announced the cancellation of 32 trains that were scheduled to pass through Visakhapatnam. This decision comes as Cyclone Montha is predicted to make landfall on the Kakinada coast late on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
Deepak Rout, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) for East Coast Railway, confirmed that local MEMU services and other trains set for departure on October 28 have been called off. He assured the public that a comprehensive list of all cancelled services would be made available on Indian Railways’ official social media channels and digital platforms.

“We are taking extensive precautions for Cyclone Montha, which is expected to impact Kakinada. The cancellation of 32 trains through Visakhapatnam is a measure to minimize disruption and ensure the safety of our travelers. While we aimed to operate trains until 4 p.m. tomorrow, local MEMUs and other scheduled departures for Tuesday have been cancelled. The updated list of affected trains is accessible across our digital platforms,” Mr. Rout explained.

Mr. Rout further detailed that the Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express has been diverted, and two intercity services, the Bhubaneswar-Jagadalpur Express and the Rourkela-Jagdalpur Express, have been short-terminated as part of the operational adjustments.

Meanwhile, coastal regions in both the state and southern Odisha, lying in the cyclone’s anticipated path post-landfall, experienced significant rainfall this morning. Ganjam district in Odisha reported rough seas, strong winds, and heavy downpours, while Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh was also impacted by the cyclone’s initial effects.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded Cyclonic Storm Montha, currently situated over the west-central Bay of Bengal, to a severe Cyclonic Storm. It is projected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast, specifically between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, during the evening or night of Tuesday, October 28.
