The political landscape is buzzing with news that Prashant Kishor, the prominent poll strategist and founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, has been enrolled as a voter in two different states: West Bengal and Bihar. This development comes as his party actively participates in the Bihar assembly elections.
According to reports, Kishor’s address in West Bengal is listed as 121 Kalighat Road, a location associated with the Trinamool Congress office in Bhabanipur. This constituency is notably the assembly seat of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
In Bihar, Kishor is reportedly registered as a voter in Sasaram, specifically within the Kargahar assembly constituency in the Rohtas district. His polling station is located in Konar, his ancestral village.
It’s worth noting that Kishor had previously worked as a political consultant for the Trinamool Congress during the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections. His voter registration in Bihar is said to have occurred after the Bengal assembly polls concluded. Reports indicate that Kishor has applied to cancel his voter registration in West Bengal, though the status of this application remains unclear.
The news has elicited responses from political figures. Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s IT cell, commented on the development, suggesting that if Kishor’s party had a significant presence in Bihar, this voter enrollment would have caused a major controversy. He characterized the situation as typical of the opposition’s perceived hypocrisy.
Adding to the commentary, a local TMC councillor and relative of Mamata Banerjee, Kajari Banerjee, stated that 121, Kalighat Road, is indeed the TMC’s party office. While acknowledging Kishor’s past association and stays at the building, she expressed uncertainty about his voter registration from that address.
