Chennai was on high alert Monday evening, October 27, 2025, after anonymous emails surfaced claiming that explosive devices had been planted at the homes of prominent figures: cinema icon Rajinikanth, acclaimed actor-filmmaker Dhanush, and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai.
The alarming messages were initially dispatched to the official email address of the Tamil Nadu Director-General of Police (DGP) before being promptly relayed to the Greater Chennai City Police for immediate investigation.
Responding with urgency, the Teynampet police, supported by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), rushed to Mr. Rajinikanth’s residence in the upscale Poes Garden area. After a thorough security assessment, the actor’s personal security team assured authorities that no unauthorized individuals had gained entry to the property, leading them to conclude the threat was unfounded.
Further investigations by the police and BDDS at the residences of Mr. Dhanush and Mr. Selvaperunthagai similarly found no evidence of any explosives, confirming that all the threats were indeed hoaxes.
