A chilling case has emerged from Delhi’s Timarpur where a forensic science student, reportedly fascinated by crime shows, and her ex-boyfriend, an LPG distributor, are accused of conspiring to murder her live-in partner. The duo allegedly employed their knowledge and skills to create a deceptive crime scene, attempting to pass off the killing as an accidental fire caused by flammable substances like ghee and alcohol.
The incident, which occurred on October 6, came to light recently as police unveiled disturbing details and announced the arrests of the suspects.
According to Delhi Police, the motive behind the murder appears to be revenge. The victim, a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant, allegedly recorded obscene videos of the female suspect and over 15 other women. Following a dispute over these videos, which he refused to delete and allegedly used to humiliate her, the student turned to her ex-boyfriend for help.
The investigation began after police received a distress call regarding a fire at the victim’s residence in Gandhi Vihar. Upon arrival, officers discovered a severely burned body. Initially, the case was registered under provisions related to negligent conduct with fire. However, suspicions arose among the victim’s family when CCTV footage revealed two individuals entering the premises before the fire and one woman leaving shortly before it erupted. This led the police to identify the victim’s 21-year-old live-in partner, the forensic science student, as a key suspect.
The student, leveraging her understanding of forensic science and her ex-boyfriend’s expertise in handling LPG cylinders, reportedly devised a plan to create a fatal fire. The police revealed that on the night of the incident, the trio allegedly strangled and beat the victim to death. Subsequently, they poured ghee and alcohol over his body before setting it ablaze, intending to destroy evidence and mask the true cause of death.
The ex-boyfriend, with his knowledge of gas cylinders, allegedly rigged the scene. The cylinder’s regulator was opened, and a lighter was used to ignite the fire, with the cylinder placed near the victim’s head. An hour later, the cylinder reportedly exploded, completely charring the body.
Further investigation uncovered a hard disk from the victim’s residence containing videos of more than 15 women, raising concerns about potential non-consensual recordings. Forensic experts are currently examining the contents to identify the women involved.
The suspects were arrested in October, with the woman apprehended on October 18, her ex-boyfriend on October 21, and an associate on October 23. Investigators recovered crucial evidence, including the hard disk, a trolley bag, the deceased’s shirt, and two mobile phones.
